PH Trainer PT

About the Role

Trains other Package Handlers (PHs) on loading, unloading, palletizing, and scanning techniques to ensure efficient and safe movement of packages through the operation. Responsible for the physical loading, unloading, and/or sorting of packages by hand, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and placing packages in a safe and efficient manner. May be assigned to or rotate through various areas and positions such as Loader, Unloader, Palletizer, Scan Weigh and Key (SWAK), Quality Assurance (QA), Facer, Switcher, etc.

Responsibilities

• Trains new PHs in effective unloading, loading, palletizing, carrying, smalls handling, SWAK, and non-conveyable package handling techniques.
• Provides additional training to PHs as determined by management.
• Offers feedback on proper package handling techniques.
• Reinforces dock safety standards among peers.
• Demonstrates all necessary processes and procedures by example.
• Updates managers on operational conditions to aid efficiency decisions.
• Assists in implementing new package handling procedures and techniques.
• Regularly loads, unloads, palletizes, lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls packages while training others.
• Utilizes hand-to-surface methods for all package handling.
• Loads and unloads packages onto or from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor system carts, and load gratings.
• Lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls packages continuously for 3-5 hours per shift, with potential for multiple shifts per day.
• Determines the appropriate conveyor system by scanning packages, reading labels, verifying numbers, and memorizing information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• No minimum education required.
• No prior experience required; six months of experience as a PH with FedEx Ground preferred.
• Ability to train multiple peers simultaneously.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information for correct package sorting.
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes, and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.
• For PHs operating switching equipment: valid driver’s license and maintenance of a Department of Transportation (DOT) file.

Job Conditions

• Work in hot and cold temperatures.
• Work in an environment with loud noise.
• Ability to lift and carry between 10 and 50 pounds.
• Travel is not required.
