PH - Switcher PT-3

Responsibilities

• Move trailers to and from unload/load doors and throughout the yard.
• Perform trailer switches: hook and move a parked trailer from the yard to a load/unload door, or from a door back to the yard.
• Communicate with management and/or central control to coordinate trailer movements.
• Document trailer moves using the Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Follow yard‑switching safety processes and procedures.
• When required, perform package‑handler duties:
  • Use “hand‑to‑surface” methods to load and unload packages onto/from delivery vehicles, trailers, conveyor carts, and load gratings.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull packages continuously for 2‑4‑hour shifts.
  • Scan packages, read labels/charts, verify numbers, and sort packages onto the appropriate conveyor system.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Education: None required.

Minimum Experience: No experience required; six (6) months of experience as a package handler or switching/CDL operator experience preferred.

Job Conditions: May work in hot and cold temperatures, in environments with fumes, and in areas with loud noise.

Skills

• Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to read and interpret numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Proficiency with basic tools and equipment such as skate‑wheel rollers, dock carts, hand‑held scanners, chutes, and unloading devices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast‑paced team environment.

$22.50 per hour.

Schedule

Part‑time: Thursday – Monday, early‑morning preload sort. Start time at 4 a.m.
