About the role

As a Public Health Registered Nurse within the Forsyth County Health Department at District Two, Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals supporting the mission of protecting lives and promoting healthy lifestyles for Georgia residents. District 2 Public Health serves 13 counties in northeast Georgia, including Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties. This fast-growing region includes both rural and urban communities with diverse public health challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care in accordance with nurse protocols, policies, and procedures at varying levels of supervision:
    • PH RN 1: Under supervision
    • PH RN 2: Under general supervision
    • PH RN 3: Under broad supervision
  • Focus on the prevention of illness, injury, or disability, and the promotion and maintenance of population health
  • Care for populations with special needs during disasters, emergencies, and biological or chemical incidents
  • Perform additional duties including:
    • Know and administer vaccine schedules for children and adults
    • Provide required vaccines for school attendance along with proper certifications
    • Conduct audits for schools and daycares
    • Perform scoliosis, hearing, vision, and dental screenings for school attendance
    • Cross-train in TB, Child Health, Family Planning, and IDC clinics
    • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • PH RN 1:
    • Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
    • Completion of a Public Health Nurse (PHN) course within one year of hire
    • Current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license
    • CPR certification
    • No experience required
  • PH RN 2:
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree/diploma in Nursing from an accredited college
    • One year of Public Health Nursing (PHN) experience OR completion of a PHN course within one year of hire
    • Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
    • CPR certification
  • PH RN 3:
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
    • One year of nursing experience (Bachelor's degree) OR two years of nursing experience (Associate's degree)
    • Completion of a PHN course within one year of hire (Associate's degree only)
    • Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
    • CPR certification
