About the role
As a Public Health Registered Nurse within the Forsyth County Health Department at District Two, Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals supporting the mission of protecting lives and promoting healthy lifestyles for Georgia residents. District 2 Public Health serves 13 counties in northeast Georgia, including Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties. This fast-growing region includes both rural and urban communities with diverse public health challenges.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care in accordance with nurse protocols, policies, and procedures at varying levels of supervision:
- PH RN 1: Under supervision
- PH RN 2: Under general supervision
- PH RN 3: Under broad supervision
- Focus on the prevention of illness, injury, or disability, and the promotion and maintenance of population health
- Care for populations with special needs during disasters, emergencies, and biological or chemical incidents
- Perform additional duties including:
- Know and administer vaccine schedules for children and adults
- Provide required vaccines for school attendance along with proper certifications
- Conduct audits for schools and daycares
- Perform scoliosis, hearing, vision, and dental screenings for school attendance
- Cross-train in TB, Child Health, Family Planning, and IDC clinics
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- PH RN 1:
- Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
- Completion of a Public Health Nurse (PHN) course within one year of hire
- Current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license
- CPR certification
- No experience required
- PH RN 2:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree/diploma in Nursing from an accredited college
- One year of Public Health Nursing (PHN) experience OR completion of a PHN course within one year of hire
- Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
- CPR certification
- PH RN 3:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
- One year of nursing experience (Bachelor's degree) OR two years of nursing experience (Associate's degree)
- Completion of a PHN course within one year of hire (Associate's degree only)
- Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
- CPR certification
