PGS Project Manager
About the role
The PGS Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing PGS project scopes across power systems projects, including construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance support, and related customer‑driven project work. This role ensures PGS scope is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, regulatory, and PGS quality requirements. The manager serves as the primary point of coordination between the customer, PGS project teams, subcontractors, and internal support functions to support efficient project execution and issue resolution.
Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, and execute PGS project scopes across power systems projects—from award or assignment through closeout—including construction support, commissioning, O&M support, equipment turnover, outage‑related work, and other customer‑driven scopes.
- Manage customer and project expectations through proactive communication, issue resolution, and alignment on scope, schedule, equipment availability, access requirements, and commercial objectives.
- Coordinate work‑area access, equipment availability, predecessor activities, and turnover requirements to ensure PGS scopes are released in accordance with the project schedule and executed without unnecessary resource escalation.
- Ensure all project activities comply with OSHA, NFPA, applicable state and local codes, and PGS safety policies and procedures.
- Develop and manage the Project Execution Plan (PEP), project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cost controls to keep projects on time and within approved financial targets.
- Lead and coordinate directly with engineering, procurement, construction, subcontractors, and field personnel to align on scope, schedule, quality, and safety expectations.
- Coordinate with procurement and supply‑chain teams to order, track, and deliver company‑procured materials to site in alignment with project schedules.
- Work with procurement to identify, negotiate, and execute purchase orders for long‑lead substation and high‑voltage equipment, including review and approval of associated invoices.
- Support procurement in identifying and soliciting subcontracting partners, conducting pre‑bid meetings, and facilitating subcontractor onboarding and training sessions.
- Serve as the primary interface with permitting authorities, maintaining professional relationships and ensuring ongoing compliance with permit conditions and mitigation requirements.
- Administer project prime and subcontractor contracts, including scope definition, change management, progress tracking, and documentation; escalate commercial or contractual risks as needed.
- Monitor project performance metrics and prepare accurate internal and client‑facing reports on schedule, cost, risk, and progress.
- Act as the day‑to‑day point of contact for clients, maintaining professional relationships and proactively addressing issues to support customer satisfaction.
- Support estimating, proposal development, and project handoff activities by providing field‑informed input on scope, sequencing, risks, and execution strategies.
- Ensure project closeout activities are completed, including punch‑list completion, demobilization, documentation, financial reconciliation, lessons learned, and client acceptance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience delivering power systems construction, commissioning, O&M support, or related project scopes.
- 5+ years of experience supporting or managing power systems, construction, commissioning, O&M, electrical infrastructure, or related customer‑driven project scopes.
- Familiarity with construction sequencing, equipment turnover, commissioning, testing, outage coordination, or O&M work‑planning processes.
- Experience dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors, and/or self‑perform work.
- Demonstrated experience managing project schedules, budgets, subcontractors, customer coordination, turnover constraints, and cross‑functional execution teams.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical safety practices, construction sequencing, and project controls.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) for project communication, reporting, and coordination.
- Working knowledge of Primavera P6 for development, maintenance, and progress tracking of project schedules.
- Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
- Experience using enterprise project and cost management systems such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Viewpoint Team (or equivalent platforms).
