Pest Control Technician
About the role
Residential Operations and Facilities Management are seeking two positions. One position focuses on Residential Operations and the other on Facilities Management. The job code is 8212 and the job posting begins on February 8, 2023. Applications are reviewed starting February 24, 2023.
Responsibilities
- Using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques, the technician provides safe, effective, and efficient services to multiple locations. Services include the treatment of nuisance animals, insects, and weeds. These locations include, but not limited to, student and family housing, child care facilities, museums, research facilities, libraries, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, and other auxiliaries.
- Works closely with clients to provide advice for resolving or preventing future pest problems in the areas of concern (such as sanitation, storage, exclusion, and other methods of control and prevention).
- Ensures routine, quality service is provided to clients and verifies client satisfaction by providing inspections and contacting managers and other appropriate individuals.
- Advises crafts personnel and building managers of structural modification measures to exclude pests.
- Accumulates the required CEUs to maintain a QAL or QAC Category A or Structural Branch 2 license and to maintain a working knowledge of pest management practices by attending training seminars, reading information provided, and other sources.
- Provides backup for other pest management technicians as needed.
Requirements
- 1-3 years experience performing Integrative Pest Management for a licensed business or public institution.
- Must have the skills, knowledge, and ability to use the practices of Integrated Pest Management to provide safe, effective, and efficient pest management to various campus entities.
- Expert knowledge of the latest pest management techniques, including pest biology and identification, sanitation, exclusion, education, habitat modification, pest prevention building design, wildlife management, pesticide safety, and least toxic pesticides.
- Knowledgeable in techniques to solve pest problems in sensitive campus environments, including research laboratories, animal facilities, museums, and rare book collections, without affecting data or collections.
- Knowledgeable of county, state, and federal regulations regarding application, storage, and use of pesticides.
- Must possess a valid California DPR Qualified Applicator's License or Certificate Category A, or a California Structural Branch 2 license. Must also maintain licenses through the accumulation of the required CEU's, respective to each license.
- Must be available to respond to emergencies, work on-call, rotating swing shift and holidays.

- High School Diploma.
- Knowledge and/or training in bed bug identification and control.
Skills
- Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques.
- Ability to identify and manage pest issues in sensitive campus environments.
- Experience with pest control and management in various settings.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Pay
Budgeted hourly range: $25.32 - $29.09/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.
Schedule
Multiple schedules: Monday-Friday. 7:00am - 3:30pm (Residential Operations) Monday-Friday, 5:30am - 2:00pm (Facilities Management)

Residential Operations is part of Housing, Dining, and Auxiliary Enterprises (HDAE). Residential Operations maintains properties consisting of residence halls, single student apartments, family student apartments, and dining commons serving over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. In addition to providing service to residents, Residential Operations maintains facilities that include conference centers, office spaces, and short-term lodging and housing facilities. We welcome over 20,000 conference guests annually. The mission of all Design, Facilities & Safety Services units is to design, build, operate, maintain, and renew the physical environment required to support the University's instructional, research, and public service mission and to assure UCSB is at the forefront of world-class universities. Charged with providing campus operations and maintenance services to the core campus, Facilities Management's focus is on the state-supported, general-funded buildings and infrastructure, over 4 million gross square feet of space, and over 260 acres of grounds.
Special Conditions of Employment
- May work shifts other than Monday thru Friday in order to meet the operational needs of the department.
- Maintain a valid CA driver's license, a satisfactory DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employee Pull-Notice Program.
