About the role
The Personal Trainer at the YMCA of Greenville is responsible for serving members in health and fitness by providing personalized programs tailored to individual needs. This role involves working one-on-one with clients, conducting fitness assessments, and ensuring measurable results while promoting the YMCA’s core values.
Responsibilities
- Actively participate as a Wellness Coach.
- Provide comprehensive fitness assessments for members and clients.
- Develop and implement personalized exercise programs.
- Ensure proper documentation of client sessions and administrative responsibilities.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of exercise modes and techniques.
- Promote and incorporate the YMCA’s 4 core values.
- Maintain certifications and obtain relevant continuing education credits (CECs).
- Perform additional duties such as creating newsletters, articles, staff trainings, workshops, and health education as assigned.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of all exercise equipment.
- Ensure client satisfaction and measurable progress in their fitness programs.
- Provide adequate availability for members and clients.
- Adhere to the Non-Compete Clause, avoiding training with specific YMCA of Greenville competitors.
- Follow policies related to boundaries with consumers and abuse risk management, including mandated reporting requirements.
- Manage high-risk activities and supervise consumers appropriately.
- Ensure proper sign-in/sign-out procedures for consumers and restrict facility access to authorized adults only.
Requirements
- Current NCCA Personal Trainer certification (ACSM, NSCA, NETA, NASM, or ACE).
- CPR/First Aid & AED Certified (or certification attained within 30 days of employment).
- Excellent member service and communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and physiology.
- Marketing and sales ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email.
- Desire to promote health, wellness, and fitness.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Personal passion for health and fitness.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in an Exercise-Related Field and/or equivalent health and fitness experience.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent movement throughout YMCA facilities.
- Ability to maintain a stationary position for more than 2.5 hours per day.
- Effective communication with program participants to provide accurate directions.
- Frequent movement of program supplies up to 100 pounds.
