About the role
The Exercise Specialist plays a crucial role in promoting health and wellness services at the YMCA of Coastal Carolina. They are responsible for offering information, promoting and selling personal training and additional YMCA health & wellness services and programs, and delivering excellent member service.
Responsibilities
- Takes professional initiative to offer information, promote and sell personal training and additional YMCA health & wellness services & programs, including clinical exercise programs.
- Provides excellent member service by greeting and acknowledging all members to encourage wellness participation.
- Maintains a neat, clean, and pleasant environment on the wellness floor.
- Monitors the wellness center as members use the equipment to ensure their general safety and equipment function; enforces all member codes of conduct, rules and policies.
- Assists management with administrative tasks that include keeping accurate records of scheduled, rescheduled, and cancelled appointments.
- Attends continuing education and mandatory training.
- Supports the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
- Represents the branch at various meetings related to the position, and all assigned association committees.
- Flexible work hours to ensure exposure to all facets of department operations and performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, sports medicine, or equivalent preferred.
- Preferred certifications: Exercise Physiologist, Personal Training, Nutrition, Wellness Coaching, Group Exercise Instructor, etc. from NCCA certified providers.
- Strong knowledge of current trends in health and wellness and 1 year of relevant experience.
- Exceptional relationship management experience and capacity to develop effective working relationships with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.
- Understanding of the nature and purpose of YMCA and the respective roles of volunteerism and staff.
- Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain relationships with staff, YMCA members, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
- Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
- Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
- Prior to employment, completion of all Child Abuse Prevention training.
- Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor.
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
