About the role

This position provides personal financial services at assigned military installations, delivering the full breadth of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families. Services include one-on-one counseling, commander consultations, briefings, presentations, and referral resources. The role works closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact to ensure program alignment and meet installation needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.
  • Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences.
  • Develop and distribute informational financial materials to service members and families.
  • Coordinate, publicize, and deliver Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on topics such as arrival at first duty station, pre- and post-deployment, and personal and career events as outlined in DoDI 1322.34.
  • Respond to requests for age-appropriate financial classes or seminars.
  • Utilize virtual counseling or electronic modes of communication (e.g., secure online chat, video-based communications, secure video teleconference) when authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
  • Manage duty to warn situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
  • Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing trends and issues on assigned installations.
  • Participate in regular in-services/training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. May consider applicants with an associate degree plus 4 years of experience or a high school diploma plus 6 years of experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English.
  • If required by the contract, must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
  • Ability to pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
  • Must hold one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).

License and Certifications

  • Required: AFC, CFP, or ChFC.
  • Valid in-state driver’s license.

Pay

Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500. Actual pay will be adjusted based on skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Eligible for short-term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
