Personal Financial Counselor, Assignment Ready Counselor, PFC-Springfield, IL
About the role
This position will provide coverage in short-term, surge and on-demand situations resulting from military needs such as post-deployment events or to cover existing assignments for counselors who are absent. Primary responsibilities include providing personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one counseling, consultations, briefings, and presentations.
- Conduct financial services education and counseling sessions.
- Develop and distribute financial materials to service members and families.
- Coordinate and publicize various Personal Financial Management (PFM) classes and workshops.
- Respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling or electronic communication methods as needed.
- Manage duty-to-warn situations according to DoD protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in supervision and training.
- Participate in in-services, quality improvement committees, and other contract activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required, or an associate degree plus 4 years' experience, or a high school diploma plus 6 years' experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
- 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
- U.S. citizenship and fluency in English.
- If required by the contract, must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Pass a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
- Pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Hold one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Driver's license, valid in state, preferred.
Skills
- Effective utilization of virtual counseling or electronic communication methods.
- Ability to communicate with leadership and participate in supervision and training.
- Knowledge of DoDI 1322.34 and related military lifecycle topics.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $58,440 to $93,500, with actual pay adjusted based on individual skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position may also be eligible for short-term incentives.
