Personal Financial Counselor, Assignment Ready Counselor, PFC- New Mexico

About the Role

This position provides coverage in short-term, surge, and on-demand situations to meet Military needs, such as post-deployment events or to cover absences of existing counselors. The role involves delivering a full range of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one financial counseling, consultations with commanders or staff, briefings, presentations, and referrals.
• Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences.
• Develop and distribute informational financial materials to service members and families.
• Coordinate, publicize, and deliver Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on topics across the military lifecycle (e.g., pre- and post-deployment, career events).
• Respond to requests for age-appropriate financial classes or seminars.
• Utilize virtual counseling or electronic communication modes (e.g., web-based, secure online chat, video-based communications, or secure video teleconference).
• Manage "duty to warn" situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
• Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues at assigned installations.
• Participate in training, quality improvement committees, or other contract-related activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, aligned with the role’s intent.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required. Alternatives:
  • Associate degree plus 4 years of relevant experience.
  • High school diploma plus 6 years of relevant experience.
• 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
• U.S. citizenship and fluent English required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) may be required by contract.
• Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
• Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
• One of the following certifications:
  • Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC).
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
  • Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
• Valid driver’s license.

Pay

Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500. Actual pay will be adjusted based on skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position may also be eligible for short-term incentives.
