Personal Care Attendant

About the role

Primary function is to provide non-health care related services to the client in their place of residence or a facility; to assist in providing a safe and clean environment, work cooperatively with client and family and share observations and problems with the supervisor. Works under the direction of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provides companionship to client.
• Provides preparation of meals.
• Provides a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
• Promotes positive, supportive, respectful communication to patient/family and other employees.
• Provides an environment which promotes respect for patient, privacy and property.
• Demonstrates effective time management skills.
• Reports unsafe conditions and problems to agency management.
• Demonstrates commitment, professional growth and competency through attending required inservices.
• Promotes the agency philosophy and administrative policies to ensure quality of care.

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma preferred.
• Licensure: Must have current driver’s license.
• Experience: One year experience preferred.
• Transportation: Reliable transportation and valid current auto liability insurance.

Skills

• Must be able to read and write in English and follow written and verbal instructions in English effectively.
• Demonstrates interest in the welfare of ill and elderly.
• Hepatitis B consent/declination.

Working Conditions

• Works in patient’s homes in various conditions, possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather.
• Prolonged standing and walking required; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines, identify patient needs, make quick decisions and meet patient/family psycho‑social needs.
• Requires hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Pay

Pay rates averaging $13-$+16 per hour.

Schedule

All shifts needed; full‑time or part‑time available; start immediately.
