About the Role

Join our team as a Village Helper and make a positive impact in someone’s life by providing care that enables clients to stay in their home and age in the environment they love. Services range from companionship and light housekeeping to assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs). Clients may be elderly, handicapped, living with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, or receiving Hospice services.

This is a PRN position with flexible hours based on client needs, which may include weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the general well-being of clients through companionship, such as reading aloud, playing games, or accompanying clients to activities, appointments, or errands.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, vacuuming, dusting, taking out trash, doing laundry, changing linens, and making beds.
  • Assist with client ADLs, which may include bathing, grooming, oral care, catheter care, toileting, and dressing.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in the client’s home.
  • Handle stress well and maintain positive relationships with clients, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Follow instructions and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • BLS Certification required at time of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
  • CNA certification is not required.
  • Caregiving or customer service experience preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong telephone and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Beginner keyboarding skills (preferred).

Special Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in client homes or other locations such as assisted living facilities, hospitals, or nursing facilities.
  • Travel between client locations is required.
  • Exposure to bodily fluids or health conditions of clients may occur; universal precautions must always be followed.
  • May be called upon to assist other departments in emergency situations.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Maximum occasional lift of 75 lbs from knuckle to waist level; 25 lbs from floor to 38 inches; 40 lbs from floor to 48 inches.
  • Maximum occasional carry of 5 lbs for 100 ft; 38 lbs at 36 inches height for 15 ft; 20 lbs for 75 ft.
  • Maximum occasional push/pull horizontal of 40 lbs at 36 inches height for 100 ft; vertical push/pull of 10 lbs.
  • Maximum occasional grip force of 40 lbs; lateral pinch force of 15 lbs.
  • Maximum occasional climb of 8 inches.
  • Maximum occasional forward reach of 34 inches; lateral reach of 37 inches.
  • Frequent bending; occasional fine motor coordination, foot coordination, and balance.
  • Frequent sitting; continuous standing and walking.

Supervision

Receives supervision from the Director of Nursing Clinical Management or their designee. No supervisory responsibilities.
