Job Summary
Performs personal care and homemaker tasks for client and client household. Cares for elderly, handicapped or convalescent persons, including clients who are in Hospice and clients who have dementia and/or Alzheimer’s disease. Supports the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations.
Essential Job Functions
- Affords assistance with client ADLs (activities of daily living), ensuring client is well-groomed.
- Maintains a clean and orderly environment in the client’s home, performing tasks like light housekeeping, cleaning, and meal preparation.
- Contributes to the general well-being of the client through companionship, including reading aloud, playing games, and accompanying clients to activities.
- Assists with animal care, such as dog walking and cleaning litter boxes.
- May provide bedside support for hospice clients, offering vigil support and companionship.
- Makes reports on changes in client’s physical or mental health to appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Trains new associates and provides ongoing training to existing staff.
- Adheres to safety regulations and maintains acceptable workplace conduct.
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
- Beginner keyboarding skills (preferred).
- Ability to follow instructions, manage time, multitask, communicate, add/subtract/multiply, read/write, and apply common sense.
- Caregiving or customer service experience preferred.
Special Working Conditions
- Work in a client’s home or wherever client is located.
- Travel required from client to client.
- Exposure to bodily fluids or health conditions the client might have.
- Universal precautions must always be followed.
- May be called upon to assist other departments in an emergency situation.
