Personal Care Assistant

About the role

The Personal Care Assistant role involves providing essential personal care and support to clients in their homes, following individualized care plans.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with bathing, grooming, ambulation, meal preparation (including special diets), feeding, oral hygiene, and transfers using equipment like walkers and wheelchairs
• Encouraging client independence and maintaining safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards
• Completing daily tasks via EVV or electronic timesheets, and reporting any changes in client condition or safety concerns to supervisors
• Performing secondary tasks such as light housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, and meal prep, within the scope of the care plan
• Ensuring a clean, safe environment and respecting client privacy and rights
• Assisting with the self-administration of medications, but not administering medications directly

Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma preferred; ability to read and write required
• At least 6 months of validated caregiving experience
• Must be 18 years or older
• Strong communication, safety awareness, and adherence to policies and procedures

The position reports to the Home Care Manager and involves accountability for delivering quality, client-centered care within professional scope and safety protocols.
