Personal Care Aide (PCA)

Personal-Touch Home Care & Hospice, a leader in the home care industry since 1974, provides in-home nursing care, IV therapy, wound care, physical, occupational and speech therapy, hospice care, medical social work and personal care services. The company is dedicated to individualized, comprehensive, quality patient‑ and family‑centered care. Positions are for Personal Care Aides serving the Peninsula area (Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Williamsburg, York County).

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care: baths (bed, tub, shower), back rubs, oral hygiene, changing bed linen, assisting with dressing/undressing, grooming (hair care, shampoo, shaving, nail and skin care), toileting, feeding if needed.
• Keep patient’s living area clean and orderly; prepare and serve simple diets.
• Assist with mobility: moving from bed to chair, wheelchair, walking.
• Report changes in patient’s condition to supervising nurse; keep simple records.
• Perform incidental household tasks essential to health needs: light housekeeping, making/changing beds, dusting, vacuuming, mopping rooms used by patient; tidy kitchen, bedroom, bathroom; shop for patient if no other arrangement; personal laundry of patient if no family member available.
• Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as ordered by therapy services (with appropriate demonstrated skills/competency).
• Record patient care activities daily; participate in case conferences.
• Prioritize work/care tasks to ensure all duties and patient visits are completed when assigned.
• Adhere to organization’s documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
• Attend minimum of twelve (12) hours of in‑service annually; participate in meetings as requested by Clinical Director/Supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Successful completion of an approved home health training program to become a personal care aide, OR current Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) license.
• Empathy for the needs of the ill, frail and impaired.
• Ability to communicate patient condition information clearly.
• Initiative to work with minimal direct supervision.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Reliable transportation and a smartphone.
• Minimum one (1) year of caregiving experience (required).
• One (1) year of EMR systems experience (preferred).
• Current PCA certificate (required).
• Ability to commute or plan to relocate to Newport News, VA before starting work (required).
• Day shift availability (required).
• Weekly schedule Monday to Friday with weekend availability.

Benefits

• Sign‑on bonus: $1,000.

Pay

$13.50 to $17.50 per hour.

Schedule

Day shift, Monday to Friday; weekend availability required.
