About the role
Personal-Touch Home Care & Hospice, a leader in the home care industry since 1974, provides in-home nursing care, IV therapy, wound care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, hospice care, medical social work, and personal care services. We are dedicated to delivering individualized, comprehensive, and family-centered care, believing each person is unique. We are seeking qualified Personal Care Aides for our Peninsula service locations, including Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and York County.
Requirements
- Successful completion of an approved training program in home health services to become a personal care aide, or licensed as a Certified Nurse Aide.
- Empathy for the needs of the ill, frail, and impaired.
- Able to communicate information concerning a patient’s condition clearly.
- Displays initiative to work with minimal direct supervision.
- Able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Reliable transportation and a smartphone.
- Caregiving experience: 1 year (required).
- EMR systems experience: 1 year (preferred).
- PCA certification (required).
- Ability to reliably commute or relocate to Newport News, VA before starting work.
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care, including:
- Baths—bed, tub, shower
- Back rubs
- Oral hygiene
- Changing bed linen
- Assisting with dressing and undressing
- Grooming—hair care (including shampoo), shaving, nail and skin care
- Assisting with toileting activities
- Assisting in feeding the patient, if necessary
- Keep patient’s living area clean and orderly.
- Prepare and serve simple diets.
- Assist the patient in moving from bed to chair, wheelchair, and walking.
- Report changes in the patient’s needs and condition to the supervising nurse.
- Keep simple records.
- Perform incidental household tasks essential to the patient’s health needs, such as:
- Light housekeeping
- Making and changing beds
- Dusting, vacuuming, and mopping rooms used by the patient
- Tidying the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom
- Shopping for the patient if no other arrangement is possible
- Personal laundry of the patient if no family member is available or able
- Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as an extension of therapy services as ordered (with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills/competency).
- Record patient care activities daily.
- Participate in case conferences.
- Prioritize work/care tasks to ensure all duties and patient visits are completed when assigned.
- Adhere to the organization’s documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
- Attend a minimum of twelve (12) hours of in-service annually.
- Participate in meetings as requested by the Clinical Director/Supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Note: CNAs and PCAs are never allowed to administer medications.
Pay
$13.50 to $17.50 per hour
Schedule
- PRN (as needed)
- Standard shift: Day shift
- Weekly schedule: Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
