Permanent Substitute Teacher (Elementary-Certified)
Job/Position Summary
Perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time, in order to ensure students continuous learning, safety and well-being, and academic achievement.

Elementary Building Principal/Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience: Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, Experience working with Elementary Students
- Certificates/Licenses: Missouri teaching certificate in Elementary Education, Strongly Preferred or Missouri Substitute Certificate is required
- Other: Valid Drivers License required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Instructional Responsibilities:
- Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans for students ranging in schooling level from Early Childhood through High School
- Creates a safe and orderly environment which is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students
- Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned
- Maintains reasonable rules of conduct that encourage self-discipline and responsibility
- Mets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated, and maintains appropriate record-keeping of student performance
- Professional Responsibilities:
- Remains at school the entire school day, serving the building offices and staff as needed when instructional assignments are not required
- Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility and maintains a professional appearance as an example to students
- Maintains confidentiality regarding staff/student information
- Supervises students in all areas of the school grounds and off-school grounds when involved in school activities
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code and school policies
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
- Communicates effectively and professionally with parents, staff, students, and community members
- Completes other duties as assigned by building or district administration
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
- Communication Skills: Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals, administrators, parents, and students
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, technical procedures, and textbooks; Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of unexpected situations; Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge in use of various digital platforms: Email, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform duties with awareness of school expectations/requirements; Ability to implement lessons based on school objectives and student needs
Physical Requirements
- Must speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear, and, sometimes, sit on a regular basis
- Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, reaching above the head and forward, and use fine motor skills
Environmental Conditions
- The noise level will vary depending on the daily activity. It, at times, is very quiet in the classroom but often, as in the cafeteria and/or school assemblies, is moderate to very loud
- The employee must often meet deadlines and must report to class and/or duty assignments on time
- The work environment includes inside, and possibly outside areas for supervision purposes
