Perioperative Registered Nurse

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates care for patients having surgical intervention following the directives of the professional and regulatory bodies.
• Delegates tasks to other levels of care providers within the surgery department.
• Possess and demonstrate skills in physical assessment, patient care and discharge planning, delivery of patient care, decision making, patient-family teaching, planning and organizing care using sound time management skills.
• Assumes responsibility for evaluating patient care needs, meeting those needs, reporting and documenting patient's discharge plan.
• Works in all perioperative phases of care, including Pre-op, PACU, and Circulating Nurse.
• Surgery Tech (RN Scrub): RNs may be asked to train into the surgical scrub role.
• Understands procedures and anticipates needs of the surgeon.
• Has knowledge of sterilization and disinfection.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for disinfection and/or terminal sterilization according to recommended practices.
