Perioperative Pediatric RN

About the role

Shriners Children’s – Spokane is seeking an Operating Room/PACU RN to join the Perioperative team. This position provides care in both the OR and PACU Phase I of a patient’s surgical experience. The RN will function within the team by providing professional nursing care to patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during and/or immediately after surgical or other invasive procedures. Provides support to the Surgeon and the Anesthesiologist as needed during the intraoperative process. No weekends, no nights, minimal call.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care to pediatric patients in all perioperative areas, including the Operating Room and Phase I Recovery Room.
• Performs professional nursing services for patients with a variety of needs utilizing the nursing process and within the scope, ethics, and standards of practice of the American Nurses Association.
• Supports the family-centered care philosophy of Shriners Children’s.
• Performs assessments, interventions, circulating, IV starts, airway management, aseptic technique, technical equipment handling and troubleshooting, and various other high-acuity skills designed to keep patients safe before, during, and immediately after surgery.
• Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues.
• Assesses comprehensive data including but not limited to physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs and interprets assessment information to derive the diagnosis or issues as defined by the patient’s condition.
• Identifies expected outcomes and develops a plan that prescribes strategies addressing health promotion and restoration, health maintenance, or health-related problems or issues and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
• Involves patient, family, and healthcare team members in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan of care and identifies expected outcomes based on nursing assessment and diagnosis.
• Implements the identified plan and coordinates care delivery.
• Employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
• Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
• Applies the principles of professional codes of ethics that ensure individual rights in all areas of practice.
• Integrates evidence and research findings into practice.
• Demonstrates leadership behaviors in practice settings, across the profession, and in the community.

Requirements

• RN in Washington state.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 3 months of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 3 months of hire.
• BSN preferred, or signed BSN education agreement to actively be in process to receive BSN within five years from the initial date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Procedural and/or acute care experience.
• Pediatrics or orthopedic experience.
• AORN certification.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $41.04–$70.35/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
