Perioperative Nursing Assistant

About the role

The Perioperative Nursing Assistant supports surgical services by performing a variety of activities to ensure efficient operations, utilizing independent judgment and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Apply aseptic techniques across multiple surgical areas and support pre-op, intra-op, and post-op functions.
• Assist surgeons, physicians, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and nurses with diverse procedures.
• Operate and troubleshoot various surgical equipment, including electrosurgical units, microscopes, laser systems, and sterilizers.
• Support multiple surgical specialties, ensuring proper setup, documentation, and adherence to safety protocols.
• Prioritize and plan support based on daily schedules, age-specific needs, and patient requirements.
• Maintain effective communication within the surgical team and provide technical assistance as needed.
• Participate in on-call duties outside scheduled hours, responding promptly to department needs.

Qualifications

• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days, from the American Heart Association.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques, sterilization/disinfection, and surgical systems.
• Ability to operate a range of surgical and medical equipment, troubleshoot issues, and provide case-specific support.
• Effective critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent functioning across multiple surgical settings.
• Strong communication skills, teamwork, and sensitivity to patient and family needs.
• Willingness to support after-hours, weekend, and holiday call shifts.
