About the role
The Perioperative Nursing Assistant supports surgical services by performing a variety of activities to ensure efficient operations, utilizing independent judgment and decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Apply aseptic techniques across multiple surgical areas and support pre-op, intra-op, and post-op functions.
- Assist surgeons, physicians, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and nurses with diverse procedures.
- Operate and troubleshoot various surgical equipment, including electrosurgical units, microscopes, laser systems, and sterilizers.
- Support multiple surgical specialties, ensuring proper setup, documentation, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Prioritize and plan support based on daily schedules, age-specific needs, and patient requirements.
- Maintain effective communication within the surgical team and provide technical assistance as needed.
- Participate in on-call duties outside scheduled hours, responding promptly to department needs.
Qualifications
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days, from the American Heart Association.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques, sterilization/disinfection, and surgical systems.
- Ability to operate a range of surgical and medical equipment, troubleshoot issues, and provide case-specific support.
- Effective critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent functioning across multiple surgical settings.
- Strong communication skills, teamwork, and sensitivity to patient and family needs.
- Willingness to support after-hours, weekend, and holiday call shifts.
