About the role
The Performing Arts Instructor will provide instruction in dance (ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz, lyrical and/or hip hop) for students of all ages and levels in support of the Kroc Center Hawaii’s mission to provide quality educational programs and training in the performing arts.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to students of all ages with varying artistic abilities; make adjustments to class outlines and/or teaching approach to ensure student development
- Display interest, dedication, and enthusiasm for improving the community through visual and performing arts education
- Evaluate each student’s growth, performance, and performing arts understanding. Provide corrective and positive feedback to ensure progressive development
- Prepare individuals and groups for participation in end-of-the-session events and special performances
- Teach all scheduled classes for each individual, group or program, beginning and ending on time
- Improve and cultivate the performing arts skills of individuals and groups for participation in recitals, competitions, and special performances
- Be present for and assist during end-of-session events and special performances
- Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting procedures
- Organize storage areas and control use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse
- Answer questions and interact with students, parents, volunteers and staff, displaying positive and proactive attitudes, behaviors and language
- Greet, introduce and welcome participants. Acquaint new students with class procedures
- Deliver the class in a fun and interesting manner
- Maintain regular and punctual work attendance
- Maintain regular and professional communication of class schedules, policies, updates, etc., with co-workers, students, and students’ families
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures
- Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii
- Attend staff meetings as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work and interact with a diverse group of people in a positive and productive manner
- Two years dance and/or theater experience
- Demonstrated classroom management skill
- Must be at least 18 years of age
