Per Diem Ultrasound Technologist

About the role

Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations to help diagnose patient’s condition.

Education/Experience

• Graduation from an accredited school of ultrasound technology.

Licensing/Certification Requirements

• American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) Certification, preferably in Abdomen and Obstetrics, and preferably an advanced Specialty Certification in Vascular Sonography.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Additional Position Requirements

Preferences will be given to applicants who document the following:

• Graduate from an ARDMS accredited ultrasound program
• Certified with ARDMS in either AB, OB or VT
• Experience in a high volume acute care hospital
• Experience in a high volume ultrasound department
• Experience with OB, General, and Vascular Ultrasound

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

• Proper procedures and protocols for performing a variety of ultrasound scans; anatomy and physiology; patient preparation and tolerance assessment; pathology assessment; various pieces of equipment used in performance of ultrasound scans; department and hospital safety practices and principles; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
• Skill in performing a variety of ultrasound scans such as neonatal, pelvic, abdominal, arterial/venous, carotids, etc.; using equipment associated with performing ultrasound scans; communicating effectively with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
• Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone.
• Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
