About the role

Under general supervision and according to established procedures specific to age and upon order of a physician, provides respiratory care designed to stabilize, prevent, or remedy patient respiratory problems. Arranges and operates a variety of oxygen and other therapeutic gas equipment to safely administer prescribed doses of medical gases and aerosolized drugs to patients. Checks equipment regularly for proper functioning and records data obtained during therapy and diagnostic testing in patient charts. Draws, analyzes, and reports ABGs to physicians and nurses. Involved with adult ventilator weaning protocol and MDI protocol. Participates in embracing excellence and relationship-based care.

Responsibilities

  • Administer respiratory care to stabilize, prevent, or remedy patient respiratory problems under physician orders.
  • Operate oxygen and therapeutic gas equipment to deliver medical gases and aerosolized drugs.
  • Maintain and check equipment for proper functioning.
  • Record therapy and diagnostic testing data in patient charts.
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases (ABGs) to physicians and nurses.
  • Participate in adult ventilator weaning and metered-dose inhaler (MDI) protocols.
  • Provide direct patient care across all age groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult, and geriatric.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved A.M.A. school for Respiratory Therapy.
  • Current NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care) credential (Certified or Registered).
  • Current license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association (required as of January 2019).
  • Analytical ability to resolve problems using scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
  • Strong communication skills to explain clinical, technical, and diagnostic procedures to patients and families, enforce policies, and provide comfort in difficult situations.

Pay

St. Joseph’s Health provides a salary range to comply with New Jersey law. The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, and skills. The salary range does not include incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation.

About The Team

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is an academic tertiary care medical center and state-designated trauma center located on the Paterson campus.
