Per Diem Substitute Music Teacher

Dates of assignment: 9/8/2026 – 10/6/2026 (tentative end date). This is a per diem substitute position, but may change into a long-term substitute position depending on the length of the assignment.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Certification in Music K-12 (preference for background in choral music)

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate superior knowledge of content and performance standards and effectively implement them in an elementary choral classroom setting
• Motivate and inspire students at a variety of ability levels and contribute toward the growth of an exemplary vocal program
• Instruct and motivate students in developing problem-solving skills
• Exhibit proficiency in vocal and piano skills
• Manage large-group classroom discipline and motivate students of varying skill levels
• Create a flexible, student-centered classroom environment
• Participate in professional organizations (e.g., NAfME, NYSSMA, ECMEA) and pursue continued professional development
• Apply knowledge of music literature, curriculum, and technology appropriate to 4th-grade level and other grade levels
• Communicate effectively in writing and orally with staff, colleagues, administration, parents, and community groups
• Maintain a strong work ethic with attention to detail and organization
• Reflect on teaching practices to support continued growth and excellence
• Contribute to school community and extracurricular events within and outside the department

Pay

• Per diem substitute rate: $140–$150/day
• Long-term substitute rate: $160/day (if assignment lasts 30 or more days)
