Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to assist with patient scheduling and coordination of care.
  • Absorb patient assessments and triage patient care needs over the phone and in the office.
  • Alert physicians as needed to patient needs that require physician intervention.
  • Follow up with patients as needed by telephone, to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines and to evaluate changing or uncertain clinical situations.
  • Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.
  • Maintain follow-up appointments and tests/procedures for patients.
  • Ensure adherence to patient care standards and complete patient care functions safely and effectively.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, in-services and continuing education programs, national and regional professional organizations, and community-sponsored programs specific to Oncology and Hematology.
  • Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice and provide recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice Directors.
  • Cookbook patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.

Requirements

  • Licensed Nurse within the State of Maine required
  • 2-5 years plus nursing professional experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
  • Two years of Hematology/Chemotherapy/Oncology nursing experience preferred
  • ONS Chemotherapy & Bio-therapy Certification or ability to get certification within 3 months of employment supported through the orientation process
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff
  • Detail-oriented, strong follow-up skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities

Willingness to learn and work in oncology.
