Job Summary
A flexible Medical Laboratory Scientist position is available to perform waived, moderate, and/or high-complexity tests and procedures in clinical andrology/endocrine laboratory sections under the direction of the Supervisor. The role involves performing accurate laboratory analyses on various specimens, monitoring and documenting quality control procedures, and assisting in proficiency testing.
Responsibilities
- Accurately perform routine and complex laboratory procedures as per competency and authorization.
- Follow pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical procedures for specimen handling, test systems, and result reporting.
- Maintain and document Quality Control, maintenance, and calibration procedures according to established protocols and accreditation standards.
- Identify and address issues affecting test performance, provide technical support to staff, and notify supervisors of unresolved problems.
- Start up, shut down, and maintain laboratory equipment, report deviations from acceptable levels, and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in Proficiency Testing, update laboratory policies, and assist in training new employees.
- Perform method validations, linearity, and parallel studies on laboratory instruments as assigned.
- Investigate laboratory incident reports and document findings.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
- Comply with hospital, laboratory, safety, and HIPAA regulations, and participate in performance improvement activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts or Science in MLS or other biological/chemical science or U.S. equivalent (substantiated by foreign credential evaluation statement).
- Broad knowledge of laboratory methods and techniques, quality assurance, and PC/LIS knowledge.
- MLS Certification by a minimum knowledge-based exam such as the Board of Certification (ASCP), equivalent, or eligibility to take such an exam.
- Candidates holding current MLS II certification preferred.
