Per Diem Inpatient Speech Therapist

About the role

Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, part of the Tufts Medicine system, seeks qualified Inpatient Per Diem Speech Therapists. Established over 130 years ago, the hospital offers a wide array of services including a Level III Trauma Center, Level III Special Care Nursery, Breast Health Center, Cardiovascular Center, and over 20 locations and 50 specialties. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing care in their local community.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and diagnoses speech, language, and communication disorders based on behavioral observations, case histories, and standardized tests.
• Formulates and recommends a plan of care, including therapy, referrals, extended evaluations, and home training programs.
• Prepares detailed written reports of evaluations and progress.
• Consults with clients, patients, and caregivers to discuss recommendations and necessary carryover programs.
• Evaluates progress to assess the effectiveness of home programs.
• Selects appropriate tests, measures, and rehabilitation services and provides these consistently and efficiently.
• Informs and consults with medical personnel regarding the type, extent, and prognosis of speech and/or language disorders.
• Communicates with professionals, other disciplines, and businesspersons serving the client, and provides information to various social agencies.
• Completes documentation, including evaluation reports, progress notes, periodic re-assessments, and discharge summaries in a timely manner.
• Complies with insurance requirements, including obtaining MD signatures and insurance approvals.
• Participates in staff and interdisciplinary conferences to determine and reassess treatment goals and progress.
• Assumes accountability for professional growth and development to maintain a high level of clinical competency.
• Coordinates, oversees, and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of scheduling, hiring, training, and other daily operations for the Speech and Language Program.
• Monitors individual workloads and assists the appointment secretary in scheduling sufficient clinical activity to meet workload requirements.
• Keeps abreast of current literature in the field and acquires knowledge and skills regarding new tests, instruments, and machines in the field.
• Maintains a working knowledge of the patient care program and devices available to patients.
• May initiate and/or participate in research projects, as required.
• Performs related bookkeeping duties.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association.
• Speech Therapist License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Pay

$37.18 - $47.41 per hour based on minimum qualifications.

Schedule

Per Diem - Day shifts/Day weekend shifts.
