Per diem Clinician (LCSW, LPC)

The psychiatric clinician is a licensed, experienced professional who serves as the clinical expert in the assessment and treatment of patients and families in the ambulatory settings of Greenwich Hospital. The scope of practice includes diagnostic assessment, counseling, psychotherapy, brief treatment, crisis intervention, mental health consultation, teaching/mentoring, and participation in projects or task forces as assigned by a supervisor. The clinician will work collaboratively with members of the healthcare teams throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

• Interact professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, lifestyles, and physical abilities.
• Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and/or psychiatric evaluations.
• Develop and maintain a treatment plan responsive to patient/family concerns, problems, and clinical impressions.
• Use a patient- and family-centered approach to engage individuals and families in a plan of care that addresses their identified needs.
• Provide education and counseling to individuals and families.
• Utilize recognized best practices to provide individual, couples, family, and/or group psychotherapy and/or crisis intervention as indicated.
• Consult and collaborate with external providers, agencies, or organizations, including but not limited to protective services, court systems, outpatient therapists, work/education settings, and housing supports.
• Provide referrals to community-based services for individuals and families as indicated.
• Provide information, consultation, and professional support to interdisciplinary team members and colleagues within the hospital and community.
• Facilitate and/or participate in interdisciplinary rounds and other patient-related discussions to promote integrated care and improve patient outcomes.
• Demonstrate initiative and leadership in developing services and programs to enhance patient and family care, including development of evidence-based practices.
• Contribute to individual, team, departmental, and organizational quality assurance and performance improvement.
• Document timely, accurate, and clinically relevant entries of social work activities in the electronic medical record.
• Mentor, supervise, and/or participate in projects or work groups as assigned by a supervisor.
• Navigate systems and provide advocacy for patients and families as indicated.
• Maintain and enhance knowledge base and skill set through educational opportunities and meet expectations set forth by State licensure, Hospital, and departmental standards.

Qualifications

Education

• Master of Social Work (MSW)
• Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling (MHC)
• Master of Arts, Master of Science, or Master of Education

Experience

Two (2) years' experience in behavioral health. Individuals with experience treating a broad spectrum of psychiatric conditions with adolescents and adults in a collaborative, multidisciplinary clinical setting are encouraged to apply. Training in cognitive-behavioral interventions, a biopsychosocial model of understanding and treating behavior and mental health, and a commitment to program development are preferred. IOP/Crisis intervention experience is also preferred.

Licensure

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) required.
• Current CPR certification recommended.

Skills

The clinician will possess the following special skills: empathy, active listening, critical thinking, strong organizational and computer skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with and advocate for patients and families. Additionally, the ability to develop and use skills in the implementation and use of electronic medical record (EMR) applications, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff, and the public.

Populations served include adolescents (12–18), adults (19–64), and geriatrics (65+).
