About the role

Environmental Compliance Inspector (Cross-Connection) responsible for ensuring compliance with state and local regulations related to cross-connection control and backflow prevention in the city's water distribution system.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to identify potential cross-connections and ensure proper installation and maintenance of backflow prevention devices.
  • Review and approve backflow prevention assembly test reports submitted by certified testers.
  • Issue notices of violation and follow up to ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and corrective actions.
  • Provide education and outreach to property owners, businesses, and the public regarding cross-connection control and backflow prevention.
  • Coordinate with other city departments, state agencies, and water purveyors to ensure compliance with cross-connection control regulations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cross-connection control policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in environmental science, public health, or related field preferred.
  • Certification as a Cross-Connection Control Specialist (CCS) or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and ability to travel within the city.
  • Knowledge of state and local regulations related to cross-connection control and backflow prevention.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
  • Experience in conducting inspections and enforcing regulations is desirable.
