About the role

The People & Culture Senior Benefits Administrator supports BDO’s Total Rewards Strategy by administering various benefit programs and policies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and providing excellent client service.

Responsibilities

  • Administers day-to-day operations of benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, FSA, disability, life insurance, group legal, QTE transit/parking, worker’s comp, retirement plans, COBRA, etc.
  • Researches and benchmarks benefit programs and vendors to identify gaps and improve service and value.
  • Assists with retirement plan administration, including 401k and ESOP.
  • Evaluates internal processes and identifies cost-saving measures.
  • Ensures compliance with ERISA, DOL, HIPAA, CMS, IRS, SEC 125, ACA, etc., including timely and accurate reporting and document management.
  • Maintains benefit files/records, including file transfers to payroll and third-party vendors.
  • Manages administrative invoices and fees for group benefit plans.
  • Participates in benefit plan audits as needed.
  • Collaborates on special projects related to benefits and leave of absence (LOA).
  • Supports clients with benefits inquiries and concerns, including claim issues and discrepancies.
  • Trains and supports the People & Culture team on benefits and wellness programs.
  • Designs and maintains communication materials for employees, principals, COBRA participants, and retirees.
  • Facilitates the annual open enrollment and new enrollment processes for expansion firms.
  • Maintains legal compliance with record retention, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, ACA, SEC 125, Workers Compensation, Medicare, Social Security, and DOL requirements.
  • Aids the National Benefits Manager and analyst with ACA tracking, reporting, and corrections.
  • Assists with supervisory responsibilities for benefits and LOA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, required.
  • Three (3) or more years of benefits administration experience, required.
  • Experience with self-insured health care plans, required.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state regulations affecting employee benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, ACA, SECTION 125, ACA, Workers Compensation, Medicare, Social Security, and DOL requirements, required.
  • Project and team management/leadership skills and experience, required.
  • Prior experience with administration of leaves of absences (LOA), preferred.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or CEBS certification, preferred.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with Microsoft Office applications, database systems, and Oracle platform for core and BSwift for benefits, required.

  • Discretion in handling confidential information and matters with respect to HIPAA compliance.
  • Understanding of applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Experience with industry knowledge and resources.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of leadership while providing high-level customer service and confidentiality.
  • Adaptability in communication style to convey messages and objectives to diverse audiences.
  • Individual salary determination based on qualifications, experience, skills, and location.

Pay

National Range: $75,000 - $86,000
Maryland Range: $75,000 - $86,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $75,000 - $86,000

Schedule

Flexible schedule, with approximately 10% travel required.
