About the role
This position focuses on operating maintenance equipment and completing manual labor tasks that support roadway and bridge upkeep. Through your work, you will help ensure for safe travel conditions by assisting with seasonal operations, repairs, and general maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Operate trucks, loaders, and snow removal equipment during maintenance activities
- Perform flagging duties to guide traffic safely through work areas
- Complete tasks using hand tools to clear brush, clean culverts, repair signs, and support roadway upkeep
- Perform minor repairs, complete field adjustments, and maintain equipment records
- Follow safety procedures, observe work hazards, and report incidents promptly
- Apply environmental protection practices required for maintenance activities
Qualifications
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
- Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed
- Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations
- Active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period
- Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job
- Additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment
Work Schedule and Additional Information
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
- Travel, overtime and shift work required
- Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs
- You will not have the option to telework in this position
