PennDOT CDL Operator A (Transportation Equipment Operator A)

The PennDOT CDL Operator A position offers the chance to make a significant impact on the community by supporting safe and efficient road and bridge conditions through skilled equipment operation and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned equipment during maintenance activities
- Maintain a valid CDL and complete required certifications and equipment inspections
- Perform flagging duties to help manage traffic safely around work zones
- Use hand and power tools to complete tasks such as cutting brush, cleaning culverts, repairing barriers, and performing general maintenance
- Make field adjustments, perform minor repairs, and assist mechanics with equipment servicing
- Follow safety procedures, report incidents, and help maintain a safe work area for yourself and others
Qualifications
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
- Active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period
- Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed
- Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations
- Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job

Work schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
Travel, overtime, and shift work required
Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs
