About the role

Tutor students in specified discipline and encourage students to develop a systemic approach to studying that will serve them in many courses.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual tutoring in specified discipline for which hired and integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.
  • Participate in professional development offerings.
  • Meet with Academic Skills Advisor to plan appropriate academic support for students.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed.
  • Keep and maintain regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions using the appropriate forms.
  • Reach out to students in the program and encourage them to come in for academic support.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position of Peer Tutor.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate experience in the subject area assigned to tutor with at least a “B” or better average in content area.
  • Peer tutor must have at least sophomore standing, be knowledgeable of content area, and can communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to adjust tutoring methods as needed to meet various learning styles.
  • Ability to work well with staff and students.
  • Ability to integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the student’s potential for academic progress.
  • Math tutors must at least be proficient in math from developmental through college algebra.
  • English tutors must be proficient in English from developmental to English literature courses.

Qualifications

  • At least sophomore standing.

Benefits
