Peer Support Specialist I (Military / Veteran)
About the role
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Peer Support Specialist I (Military / Veteran) in the Vets4Warriors Call Center for Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
Responsibilities
- Provides assistance to the Peer Support Specialist IIs & IIIs, as needed.
- Is the point of escalation for situations on the call center floor.
- Works with the clinician on duty or on call for crisis calls coming into the call center.
- Develops and maintains a peer to peer relationship with individuals served so that he/she can identify emotional, psychiatric or behavioral changes with may require further support.
- Utilizes own experiences as a vehicle to connect and establish rapport and relationship building with individual served.
- Promptly responds to all service requests.
- Demonstrates the ability to use a standardized template thoroughly and efficiently to guide a telephone screening of the service needs of all populations with the full array of behavioral health problems.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify contacts that need a higher level of intervention, and follow departmental protocol for handling and triaging crisis or high risk calls.
- Documents all contact information in accordance with departmental protocols and accurately and appropriately inputs data in unit's informational system.
- Interacts efficiently with computer to obtain/enter information for specified items in the appropriate protocol.
Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of related experience is required, such as working for the Vets4Warriors program either as a Peer Support Specialist II or III. At least seven (7) years of active duty service or have served ninety (90) days in a combat zone which includes medically discharged or medically retired service members or have served eight (8) years in the National Guard or have the demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position based on relevant life experience or as a caregiver to one of the above service members.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to use a computer to record services and other basic office functions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Will be required to work nights and weekends.

Pay
Annual Minimum Salary: $25,640
Annual Mid Range Salary: $26,140
Annual Maximum Salary: $26,920
