About the role
The Peer Support Specialist position at Houma ACT is seeking an individual who can provide intensive services to people with severe and persistent behavioral health disorders. The role involves working as a member of a multidisciplinary team and helping peers build self-directed recovery tools.
Responsibilities
- Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing intensive services to people with severe and persistent behavioral health disorders.
- Helps peers build self-directed recovery tools, including supporting peers in developing a Recovery Action Plan that includes their recovery goals and specific steps to reach those goals.
- Accurately identifies risk and responds appropriately.
- Effectively teaches social skills and household management skills.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Be over 18 years of age (required)
- No restrictions or adverse actions that would disqualify for Medicaid or other billing (required)
Core Competencies
- Communicates respectfully and effectively and establishes professional relationships through active listening and demonstration of empathy and positive regard.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of behavioral health symptoms, interventions, and impact.
- Maintains professional boundaries and operates within agency / ethical guidelines.
