Peer Support Specialist

Qualifications
- Lived experience with mental illness, substance use, or homelessness and/or experience gained through a family member’s mental health/substance use.
- Experience navigating healthcare systems and other community support resources.
- Must have a Florida driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of community resources or ability to learn quickly.
- Experience working with individuals with mental health or substance use concerns.
- Enthusiasm for influencing positive change in clients’ lives.
Skills
- Competency with electronic medical records, computer systems, and documentation.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills for collaboration with team members and professionalism in the community.
- Accountable and self-directed in daily job duties.
Responsibilities
- Report to work as scheduled and perform duties assigned by supervisor to ensure smooth department operations.
- Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and conduct outreach activities.
- Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and setting objectives for each goal.
- Provide individual and group peer support services.
- Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
- Facilitate wraparound/recovery supports (e.g., transportation, social connection, job training, benefits enrollment) based on individual treatment plan goals.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to develop and review treatment plans.
- Network with community stakeholders to advocate for clients.
- Educate the community about peer support services and the peer-based philosophy.
- Complete all required agency trainings to maintain 100% compliance.
- Maintain departmental productivity expectations.
- Complete additional training and/or certification as required by specific program guidelines.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
This position operates in community-based and/or office-based settings depending on the program. Duties involve sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and driving intermittently during work hours. The role is subject to frequent interruptions. Reasonable accommodations will be made as needed.
Schedule
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position with a flexible work schedule, including early mornings and evenings. On-call rotation and weekend hours may be required.

Centerstone offers Recovery Peer Specialist opportunities across various programs, including:
- Children, families, and/or adults
- Substance use and/or mental health prevention and intervention
- School-based, forensic, employment, substance use overdose prevention, and homelessness prevention programs
Pay
Pay range: $14.25–$20.00 per hour.
