About the role
The Peer Support Counselor position at Stars in the Community Health Center (SBHG) is dedicated to improving mental healthcare through direct services and advocacy. This role requires personal experience in child welfare, probation, or mental health systems, along with a certification process completed within one year of employment.
Responsibilities
- Provide outreach and engagement to program clients, including those aged 13 to 17.
- Offer support, advocacy, and direct services to clients in need.
- Act as a role model and companion to clients, helping them move towards recovery and meaningful roles in their lives.
- Support clients in accessing necessary resources and services.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, etc.)
- One year of full-time experience in consumer-directed services in a mental health, health care, or social services agency.
- Peer Support Specialist Certification within one year of employment.
- A valid California Driver's License.
- First Aid certification from qualified agencies.
Qualifications
- Personal experience as a consumer in the child welfare, probation, or mental health systems.
Skills
