About the role

The Peer Specialist works with youth, adults, and families dealing with mental health issues, both within the organization and the community. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement appropriate treatment plans to help individuals regain and maintain psychiatric stability and various functional abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support services to individuals struggling with mental health
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary team to plan and provide treatment interventions
  • Meet the needs of individuals assigned within their scope of practice
  • Work under the supervision of a higher-level program director or designated representative
  • Perform related duties as required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Peer Specialist, Parent Empowerment Program Training, Family Peer Advocates Certified Parent Peer, or willingness to pursue NYS Academy of Peer Services Credentialing within the first year of hire
  • Current New York State driver’s license

Special Requirements

  • General computer skills
  • Ability to speak comfortably in a small group of peers
