About the role
The Children’s Network of Hillsborough is committed to protecting children and preserving families through community involvement. The Peer Support Specialist role focuses on guiding and supporting families in the child welfare dependency system, providing them with recovery resources and encouragement.
Responsibilities
- Meet with families to discuss community recovery resources
- Engage parents and support them in their recovery journey using lived experience and training
- Participate in staffings to provide input on family progress
- Document and provide feedback to child welfare case managers
- Conduct home visits as requested by child welfare case managers to ensure engagement and progress
- Recognize and address crisis situations appropriately
- Follow policies, procedures, and protocols during unusual or crisis situations
- Collect and report data accurately according to FSFN guidelines
- Produce periodic reports as requested
Qualifications
- Ability to provide guidance and support to families in the child welfare dependency system
- Lived experience and training in substance use recovery
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of community recovery resources and services
- Ability to recognize and respond to crisis situations
- Proficiency in data collection and reporting
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

This is an in-office based position with fieldwork requirements, averaging 40 hours per week. Work hours may vary, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet operational demands.
