Peer Recovery Support Specialist/ ACT Team - Part Time

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is a service-delivery model providing comprehensive, locally based treatment to people with serious and persistent mental illnesses. The program offers multidisciplinary, round-the-clock staffing within the comfort of clients' own homes and communities. ACT team members are trained in psychiatry, social work, nursing, substance abuse, and vocational rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

• Act as a role model to persons with mental health or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders to facilitate recovery using techniques such as sharing your personal recovery story (when appropriate), coordinating and facilitating recovery-related groups, teaching relaxation strategies, and facilitating supportive interventions.
• Instruct persons about services provided to aid in recovery, including peer services, advanced directives, living will opportunities, and the client rights process.
• Mentor persons with mental illness or co-occurring disorders in the recovery process by reassuring them of the reality of recovery, increasing personal empowerment, and helping them set and achieve goals.
• Provide information and assist persons with applying for supplemental programs (e.g., Residential State Supplement Program, Recovery Requires a Community).
• Assist persons with completing forms and develop services and supports to identify gaps for individuals with mental health or co-occurring disorders.
• Participate on treatment teams with the person’s consent and collaborate on intake/discharge planning, including conducting intake and discharge surveys and facilitating exit interviews.
• Monitor person’s satisfaction and act as a liaison between persons and staff by relaying information to medical doctors, clinicians, Client’s Rights Officer, and other relevant staff.
• Coordinate responses to inquiries from state and local partners and conduct presentations or offer technical assistance to stakeholders, including Medicaid, board associations, provider associations, County Boards of Mental Health, guardians, and family members.
• Participate on committees, OhioMHAS Certified Peer Recovery Supporter technical assistance calls, and provide training on peer service delivery to staff, interns, or patients.
• Document information as directed by your supervisor.

Requirements

• Must adhere to the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board’s Chemical Dependency Code of Ethics.
• Demonstrate an understanding of addiction as an illness and have three years of treatment or recovery experience.
• If in recovery, must have at least one year of continuous sobriety.
• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively work with agency employees, outside contacts, and a diverse client population.
• Must be certified as a Peer Recovery Supporter.

Skills

• Experience in psychiatry, social work, nursing, substance abuse, or vocational rehabilitation (training provided).
• Ability to mentor and support individuals in recovery.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Proficiency in documenting information and facilitating groups or presentations.

Pay

$16.00–$19.50 per hour. Placement on the range is based on qualifications and experience.

Working Conditions

• Professional office environment with exposure to computer screens.
• Work closely with others; sitting for prolonged periods of time.
• May be required to stand, stoop, push, pull, bend, and lift or move light objects such as records and boxes.
• Manual dexterity required.
• Maintain mental capacity to make sound judgments and ensure regular attendance.
• Adhere to all agency policies and procedures.

Minimal travel, mostly confined to local areas.
