About the Role
This full-time position will guide, support, and assist individuals and families on the recovery continuum; facilitate the planning and implementation of recovery support activities; and distribute and promote risk-reducing materials at the St. Mary’s County Health Department (SMCHD), SMCHD satellite office, and all other outreach locations as appropriate.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Current certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist within 24 months from date of hire from the Maryland Addictions Professional Certification Board (MAPCB).
- Must be in a state of recovery for 2 years from a substance use, mental health, or co-occurring disorder to qualify for hire as a Peer Recovery Specialist, Certified.
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Maryland if assigned duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle.
Qualifications
- Experience working in Risk (Harm) Reduction.
- Experience working with individuals in recovery and understanding of medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD).
Special Requirements
- Employees must complete any additional training deemed necessary to maintain required certification.
- Employees are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
- Failure to obtain required certification within 24 months of employment may result in disciplinary action, including demotion, suspension, or dismissal.
