Peer Counselor (SKM Residence)

About the role

RiseWell Community Services is seeking full-time Peer Counselors to provide peer services in the Sunken Meadow Residence. The Peer Counselor will provide a positive role model of community functioning, informal counseling, peer support, and ADL training in a licensed residential program providing transitional housing to people with psychiatric disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide a positive role model of community functioning
• Offer informal counseling and peer support
• Train participants in daily living activities (ADLs)
• Assist with medication monitoring
• Support skill-building and symptom management
• Facilitate socialization and transportation training
• Connect participants with psychiatric and medical services

Requirements

• Personal experience with mental health and/or substance abuse issues
• Ability and desire to assist others in mastering independent living skills
• Understanding of peer support self-help philosophy
• Clean, valid driver’s license
• Fingerprinting and criminal record check required
• Approval from NYS Office of Mental Health
