Peer Counselor Program Coordinator

About the Role

As the Peer Counselor Program Coordinator, you will plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding peer counselor programs for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This role focuses on promoting maternal and infant nutrition literacy, breastfeeding education and support, and individual and community wellness while working directly with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in the WIC community.

You will collaborate with community partners and external organizations to coordinate breastfeeding promotion events and programs, oversee WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, and serve as a liaison between WIC participants, healthcare providers, and other support agencies. The role involves developing strategies and resources in conjunction with community agencies, high schools, and groups in accordance with grant provisions.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the grant-funded breastfeeding peer counselor program in accordance with grant provisions and requirements.
• Identify community health promotion needs and develop/implement promotion activities related to WIC breastfeeding education and support.
• Design and develop health activities and tools for WIC communities and groups to effectively meet breastfeeding promotion needs.
• Recruit community organizations for partnering on breastfeeding and maternal and infant nutrition education initiatives.
• Collaborate on program marketing efforts, including flier development, PowerPoint presentations, and social marketing.
• Participate in the development of grant applications and assist with data input, analysis, and quarterly/annual reporting.
• Attend training, meetings, and other events hosted by granting agencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Education/Promotion or a related field and two (2) years of experience in community outreach, program planning, and evaluation, plus one year of experience providing breastfeeding support, or
• Five (5) years of experience in health education and/or public health or community outreach, with experience in nutrition, physical activity, food justice, prevention programming, planning, and evaluation, plus one year of experience providing breastfeeding support.
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification upon hire.

• Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills, including database management.
• Independent and critical thinking, creativity, and discretion to navigate varied and evolving work situations.

Pay

$29.44 - $48.57 per hour.
