Peer Counselor

About the role

RiseWell Community Services is seeking a Part-time Supportive Peer Counselor to join the SSSH Supportive Scattered Site Housing team. Reports to: Program Supervisor. Department: Residential Services.

Qualifications

• Personal or shared experience with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues.
• Ability and desire to assist others in mastery of independent living skills and the personal recovery process.
• Understanding of peer support, self-help philosophy.
• Clean, valid NY State Driver’s License.
• Fingerprinting, criminal record check, approval from NYS Office of Mental Health required.

Job Function

To provide a positive role model of community functioning, informal counseling, peer support and ADL training in a licensed residential program providing transitional housing to people with psychiatric disabilities.
