About the role

Transform healthcare by diagnosing and treating human disease, illness and injuries while practicing evidence-based medicine. Prescribe medically necessary medications and treatments. Serve on various Carilion and/or hospital committees. Complete necessary documentation for patients' health information records. Deliver high-quality, compassionate medical care.

Responsibilities

• Examine patients using various medical equipment, instruments and tests.
• Order or perform various tests, analyses and imaging to provide information on patients' conditions.
• Determine patients' conditions based on examination, test and report results.
• Prescribe and administer drugs, treatments and vaccinations.
• May perform perinatal care, deliveries, surgeries and related invasive procedures.
• Collaborate with case management, nursing, and the medical staff to ensure all patients have an appropriate plan of care and ongoing care coordination.
• Support Joint Commission continuous readiness and compliance.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
• Conduct, cooperate, support and collaborate on basic and clinical research.
• Supervise medical treatment of patients.
• Teach and mentor others.

Requirements

This position requires a strong commitment to patient care, evidence-based medicine, and collaboration. Candidates must have a medical degree and be licensed to practice medicine in the United States. Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
