Summary
The Midlevel Provider for Pediatric reports directly to the Director of Pediatrics and is responsible for providing direct patient care including history review, health education, physical exam, counseling, diagnosis and treatment according to protocols and meeting productivity goals. The Midlevel Provider for Pediatric will be part of a team working in collaboration with the clinic staff to provide primary health care services effectively and efficiently.
Qualifications
- An unrestricted license to practice as a Pediatric Advanced Practice Nurse with prescriptive authority in the State of Texas
- Doctorate or Master’s degree in Nursing
- Three years of experience as a certified Pediatric Advanced Practice Nurse
- Certified BLS or BLS equivalent
- Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred but not required
- Proficiency in computer skills and electronic health records
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides medical services for patients from birth until 18 years of age, as delegated by the supervising physician and Chief Medical Officer.
- Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other forms of treatment.
- Maintains medical expertise and competency and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary medical care.
- Provides scheduled medical sessions in direct patient care at the health center.
- Examines, diagnoses, treats, and/or refers patients for appropriate specialty care services.
- Maintains a problem‑oriented health record for each patient in accordance with the health center’s information management policies and procedures.
- Completes patient charts within 72 hours of the visit, as required by health center rules.
- Performs, orders, and interprets diagnostic studies and medical protocols.
- Reviews all lab and x‑ray reports for patients under care in a timely manner and makes appropriate medical management decisions.
- Follows appropriate standards of care for each patient.
- Provides education and support to patients and addresses their questions and problems.
- Collaborates with the Chief Medical Director, physicians, other mid‑level providers, clinical quality manager, site supervisor, medical assistants, front‑desk staff, and other team members to assess client needs.
- Participates in the review and development of patient‑care policies, including health‑maintenance schedules and continuity of care.
- Serves as a resource and proactive leader for the department.
- Ensures patients and families are educated about diagnoses and care plans.
- Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary.
- Participates in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient‑care standards.
- Participates in conferences, workshops, and education or prevention programs as needed; attends clinic and departmental meetings and other required functions.
- Remains current with health‑care trends and information that impact medical practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including filling in for providers at other sites during absences.
- Participates in emergency and disaster response responsibilities as a health‑center staff member.
- Participates in safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
