Pediatric Intensivist | Full-time | Charlotte, NC

About the Role

Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital’s PICU is seeking an experienced, board-certified Pediatric Intensivist, ideally 3-5+ years out of training, to join a highly collegial team. The PICU is an 8-bed unit within a pediatric hospital-within-a-hospital, also featuring a 30-bed pediatric unit and a 6-bed intermediate care unit. The role includes providing a sedation service and collaborating with a broad range of pediatric subspecialists, such as neurosurgery, surgery, hematology/oncology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, infectious disease, allergy/immunology, pediatric anesthesiology, and a Level IV NICU.

The team currently consists of 3 physicians and 4 APPs, with the new hire joining as the fourth physician to share 24-hour shifts, approximately 7-8 shifts per month, often scheduled in 2-3 day blocks. One APP provides coverage from 7 a.m.-11 p.m., and the average daily census is approximately 4 patients. Some administrative responsibilities are included, such as policy development, quality improvement, and transport meetings, typically held virtually on non-unit days.
