About the role

This position uses the Nutrition Care Process to assess, evaluate, and provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling for pediatric patients. The role involves teaching dietetic students, participating in multidisciplinary teams, and developing nutritional components of care. The department intends to hire one candidate from either the Clinical Dietitian I or Clinical Dietitian II classification, based on qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, evaluate, and provide medical nutrition therapy and counseling for pediatric patients using the Nutrition Care Process.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles appropriate to the patient’s age and status.
  • Provide quality patient care, including nutrition screening, evaluation, assessment, treatment, and documentation of patient care plans.
  • Educate and evaluate dietetic students through on-the-job training and support.
  • Assess nutrition status and instruct/counsel patients on appropriate diets.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary medical teams concerning patient food habits, needs, and health team rounds.
  • Assist in implementing studies, short-term projects, and special assignments.
  • Participate as an active member of departmental and hospital committees.
  • Review and analyze production, maintenance of standards, costs, and personnel utilization records to evaluate progress and control costs.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Assist other dietitians as needed.
  • Demonstrate competency in pediatric patient care across a wide range of medical conditions in the inpatient setting (Clinical Dietitian II).
  • Make enteral and parenteral recommendations and select appropriate formulas (Clinical Dietitian II).

Requirements

  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

Clinical Dietitian I

  • A Master's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidates registered prior to January 1, 2024: A Bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition or Dietetics is required.

Clinical Dietitian II

  • Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years of clinical nutrition experience.
  • Demonstrated competency in pediatric patient care across a wide range of medical conditions in the inpatient setting.
  • Experience in making enteral and parenteral recommendations and selecting appropriate formulas.

Pay

Salary range: $57,850 and up, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Pay Grade: Clinical Dietitian I (Level 5), Clinical Dietitian II (Level 7).
