Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon
The University of Virginia (UVA) Children’s Hospital and the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery are seeking applications for a faculty position in the Section of Congenital Heart Surgery.
About the role
The responsibilities include all aspects of clinical care for congenital cardiac populations. The individual will join Dr. James Gangemi in a busy, comprehensive congenital heart program and should have a strong experience and interest in research and education. Opportunities exist for basic science, translational research, and clinical research support.
The Congenital Heart Program at UVA has been nationally ranked in USNWR for 10 consecutive years and continues to expand throughout Virginia with formal collaborations at children’s hospitals in Norfolk and Richmond. The program includes:
- A busy neonatal heart surgery program with a growing fetal cardiology program
- A pediatric heart transplant and pediatric mechanical circulatory support program
- A dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit staffed by 5 dually trained pediatric intensivists
UVA Children’s Hospital was ranked the number 1 children’s hospital in Virginia by US News and World Report for the fourth consecutive year and is nationally ranked in nine pediatric subspecialties.
Qualifications
- MD degree
- Certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS)
- Additional ABTS Certification in Congenital Cardiac Surgery
- Strong clinical background and interest in complex neonatal heart surgery, pediatric heart transplantation, and pediatric mechanical circulatory support
