About the role

Banner Health is seeking an accomplished pediatric cardiac sonographer to join a vibrant, expanding, accredited pediatric echo lab. This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment serving both inpatient and outpatient settings across multiple hospital campuses and satellite clinics with portable equipment. The role requires traveling and flexibility for last-minute schedule changes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms on both adult and pediatric patients with basic to complicated congenital heart disease
  • Conduct exams in acute hospital settings including operating room, cardiac catheter lab, emergency department, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, and other inpatient units
  • Independently perform echocardiograms utilizing department-specific protocols
  • Record, interrogate, quantify, and measure normal and abnormal anatomy/physiology consistent with approved standards
  • Produce high-quality images and prepare them with pertinent patient information for timely interpretation
  • Prepare and maintain accurate preliminary reports with detailed information and promptly communicate critical findings
  • Follow and verify referring providers' orders
  • Use independent judgment and apply learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement processes including application and/or maintenance of accreditation requirements
  • Participate in educational objectives of the pediatric echocardiography laboratory, including mentoring or precepting other sonographers, students, or trainees
  • Educate patients/families regarding procedures and/or treatments
  • Demonstrate professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; foster teamwork, efficient use of resources, and quality patient outcomes
  • Assist with invasive/interventional and intraoperative procedures in accordance with established practices
  • Participate in continuing medical education (CME), teaching, and precepting
  • Perform and evaluate equipment quality control measurements and maintenance requirements
  • Troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to repair or maintain equipment performance
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors; adhere to safety policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of all work information
  • Assure efficient operation of workflow within the department
  • Perform daily team lead function as assigned
  • Monitor and maintain adequate inventory of supplies and materials

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved school for Cardiac Ultrasound as designated by the AMA and American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine
  • National certification in specialty from ARDMS or CCI as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS-PE) or a Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS)
  • BLS certification
  • Pediatric certification
  • Experience in a dedicated pediatric echocardiography center typically achieved with minimum of 3 years of experience, or in a combined adult/pediatric echo center equal to 3 years of pediatric experience
  • Effective communication skills, human relations skills, ability to analyze data and solve problems
  • Must be open to taking holiday and after-hours calls at various hospital locations
  • Strong time management abilities and outstanding people skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Current or recent (past 12 months) experience in cardiac critical care setting as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer
  • Ability to perform additional imaging modalities such as fetal echo, stress echo, or 3D echocardiograms
  • Additional related education and/or experience
  • RVT for Vascular or RCS for echo certifications

Schedule

  • Position will start with 5-8 hour shifts Monday-Friday during training
  • After training: option to continue 5-8s or switch to 4-10s
  • Night and weekend call rotation required

Location

  • West Valley Float position primarily based at Glendale clinic (main home location)
  • Provides scheduled coverage at Estrella clinic twice per week on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Works with a team of Sonographers alternating coverage between Glendale Clinic, Estrella Clinic, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, Banner Del Webb Medical Center, Banner Estrella Medical Center, and Banner University Medical Center
